I suppose that to be a side effect of quite a few systems that were devoting most of their GPU computing to gravity wave jobs switching to GammaRay pulsar jobs which have a dramatically higher production of indicated flops.
The real reason is because the project uses an incorrect calculation of FLOPs. They reverse engineer it from credit award rather than accurately calculating/extracting the flops of the device(s).
but there has been a disproportionate credit reward between gravitational wave and gamma ray tasks. With gamma ray getting about 5-10x the credit reward per unit time on the same device.
so the actual compute power available (the connected devices) to the project hasn’t really changed significantly, but since there are no more gravitational wave tasks, all connected GPUs are now crunching only gamma ray. Which means there is more credit being awarded and hence a higher calculated flops.

Hallo!
It´s much more complex, as one can see from regularily registered server status, as I do. I´ll report about this probabbly end of september.
Kind regards an happy crunching
