I don't remember why, but I set the preference "Store up to an additional:" (Work units (WUs) home venue) to 5. That turned out to be way too many WUs. The system was aborting dozens because they were not starting before the deadline, I was aborting a few more manually because, although they were begun before the deadline, they did not finish before it, and I was not receiving credit, and I was not receiving credit for some completed WUs. I reset that preference to zero, but that change had no effect; I was still receiving way too many WUs. Then I changed the preference to 1, hoping that would set the preference to a more reasonable number, but the server promptly sent what it very generously estimated to be an additional day's work, which I don't think can be finished before the deadline.
Please fix this.

Reasonable settings for Einstein is 0.1 days of cache and 0.0 days of additional cache.
Einstein never has needed any additional days of cache and has always provided work upon every scheduler request without fail if system meets requirements.
So no need to set large caches of any kind.
Try setting Einstein to "No

Try setting Einstein to "No New tasks" in BOINC and let the entire cache completely drain. Once all tasks are gone, set your cache to some low amount and perhaps shutdown and restart BOINC. "Allow new tasks" for Einstein again and see if things behave more reasonably.
