In the "computing preferences" settings menu, I have set "use x % of processors" to only 40%, to only use my performance cores, and not my efficiency cores, since this is faster.

But this is also affecting my GPU usage, limiting GPU core usage to 40% as well, cause it's an all in one ARM chip.

Please add a graphics/GPU option section to the computing preferences page", where you can select individual settings for the GPU, like GPU usage and GPU time usage.

Update: Setting Processor utilization to 100% in both the project settings and BOINC settings, doesn't affect the GPU usage. Highest GPU utilization is 50%, so this might be a separate issue with low GPU utilization.

Update   changing the 3

Update

changing the 3 gpu utilization factor settings on the website from 1.0 to 0,33 allows for 3 tasks at once, and 95% utilization. You might only need to change to 0.5, or you might need to go lower to 0.25 or 0.20, always dividing 1.0 with 2,3,4,5,6 and so on, depending on how powerful your GPU is.

In the case of the MacBook

In the case of the MacBook Air Late 2020, due to its structure, the heat dissipation couldn't keep up, resulting in the unfortunate experience of the SOC die temperature sticking at 70 degrees Celsius. :(

That's not necessarily a problem.  Modern CPUs can run safely for prolonged periods of time at close to 90C.  They also have safeguards to prevent damage from overheating.

Depending on ambient temperature and CPU load, my newer AMD and older Intel CPUs periodically reach 90C and sustain it for periods of time.  Haven't worried about it for a few years now, since reading about capabilities of modern CPUs.

On a quick look, it seems like your CPU should be able to handle high 80s no problem.  You could try to find some in depth info on the max temp for your specific CPU and give it a try letting it run at close to that.
