Please keep in mind that you are punishing the Official E@h project for an unofficial program that is not officially sanctioned. It's sort of like punishing the children of a government that we do not like...
Also, the Windows version was the one that just happened to be optimized because the guy was more familiar with Windows. There is nothing stopping a Linux programmmer for doing the same with Linux.
I can certainly understand your emotional reaction, but logically there is not imho a good reason to suspend E@h for a Linux user. The project values all contributions, and all contributions move the project forward. :)
On another note, crunching blocks of data on an inefficient and time-consuming system is of no different than what you've described as a punishment to Einstein, basically you're punishing the project by churning out results rather late if not too late..........
Given if these optimised clients do make in to the public officially, unoptimised system can be utilised on other projects instead of wailing thru that long-dreaded blocks of data only to be fed by a low average credit claim (and no, this is not about the credit claim obsession thingy) plus the unjustified extra costs of electricity per WU.
that's where BOINC's meant to be, to share CPU resources efficiently amongst different projects, irrespective of OSes or CPU makes.
PS: And this is one of the reasons I switched from SETI to Einstein, because the latter is optimised for Altivec instructions on the G4/5s.... I wonder what will happen if I switched from PPC to Darwin x86....

As long as the results are returned before the deadline, the results are not too late.

I think you're confused on this issue. The optimization is for the Einstein science application, not for the BOINC client. It will have NO effect on other projects.

Actually, you've got my meaning wrong, that's why it gives you the impression that I'm confused.....
Of course I know the optimisation is on the Einstein science application, I've been following akosf's progress closely.....
and mind you, Einstein was also optimised on Darwin - PPC way earlier, that's the reason I'm drawing it as a comparison.....
Lots of people may only join Einstein as a SETI backup and with a small resource share. Combined with a large cache I can see that being a solution. The fact that Einstein seems to be permanently online and not suffering from glitches is an advantage over other projects.
I'm gonna keep on crunching Einstein. I was put off at one stage by the WU times and decided to crunch stuff I find more worthy such as MalariaControl but now Akosf is around I've started up again.

I just wanted to draw extra attention to that line as it is SO true! The project administrators and crew should be proud of themselves for doing such a great job in the keeping the project running. A hearty THANK YOU! for doing this. :)

I'll second that,
