Can I run these headless as is, or do I need to run spoof plugs? I don't know the correct term for it.

This is all for remote access to save electricity and space. Mostly space. My tables are full.

You will need to place the 'spoof plugs' as you call them into these Windows' GPU's, and also you need a program to communicate with them such as "BoincTasks":  https://efmer.com/boinctasks/boinctasks-flavours/

It works very well, but you'll need to follow directions closely.

There have been a couple more

There have been a couple more Nvidia Linux driver updates for Fedora Linux, with the most recent being the latest 565.77 release.  Information on installing the drivers via rpmfusion: https://rpmfusion.org/Howto/NVIDIA

(Likewise, Windows Nvidia drivers have obviously also been updated!)

One driver release was for a security update, so always a good idea to update to the latest drivers (if you are able to on your systems).

try running it again and capture the output? just copy and paste what it said when you run the command in the terminal.

i wonder if 70c is too low? outside the range i mean. power limit for example has a valid range and it wont let you set values outside that are too low or too high.

I would also assume that the way this command works to reduce temps is to just reduce the clock speed until temps come to the value you've set. do you see that the clock speeds have been reduced?

Just getting this when executing the command :

sudo nvidia-smi -gtt 70
All done.

You can use nvidia-smi to verify that the target temp you are setting is within range.

based on that output, I would

based on that output, I would assume that the command took, as there's no error and target temp is in range.

might have to dig into which temp the command is trying to control (is it hotspot? is it avg core?) and what temp is being displayed.

Unencumbered by any actual

Unencumbered by any actual knowledge ... and from comparing GKrellm and a "gnome-terminal -- watch -t -n 8 nvidia-smi" and what "Corectrl" is doing on a 6800XT I'd guess they are all doing "AVG CORE".

NvAPI and nvidia-smi doc only tells me:  "temp sensor" then "Core GPU temperature" respectively.

Also, got this 'valid range' from a RTX3080 on a v20.3 Linux Mint box but other than the driver version a v22 box gave me the same with the same brand/model/version of card in it:

Timestamp                                 : Thu Dec 26 07:49:40 2024
Driver Version                            : 535.183.01
CUDA Version                              : 12.2

Attached GPUs                             : 1
GPU 00000000:08:00.0
    Supported GPU_TARGET_TEMP
        Min                               : 65 C
        Max                               : 91 C

Two different brands of 4070 Super card using the 550 driver both gave me 65 C - 88 C

A 1660 ti also on the 550 driver gave me  65C - 89C.

... but generally I don't use temp limiting but rather power limiting.

Is anybody here running Titan

Is anybody here running Titan XP? How well does it run?

As Titan V is out of the question, after HotWheels mania my wife got for a kid. ????????

You should be able to find a Titan V for ~$350 on ebay. There will be a large difference in performance. The Titan V uses HBM2 memory vs the DDR in the X. This work definitely favors HBM over DDR. I would not spend the money on the X, but that's my opinion.  Maybe similar performance to a 3060 but that's just an estimate. There might be someone here that has used one but we have not.

I am not running it. But it has a 32 bit floating point number that is about 3/4 of a Titan V. And the 384 bit memory width should not be limiting for what we do here.

This card will not run GpuGrid as fast as a Titan V does because it's 64 bit floating point isn't nearly as high as a Titan V.

I suspect it is a decent card for what we do here.

Only trying it out will answer your questions.

Hope you can find a really low price for it!

I look forward to hearing how it works for you.

Happy New Year! And happy GPU!

===edit===

I am seeing as low as $180 on eBay.  Now that you have me interested, I am now officially TEMPTed.  Darn there goes more of my Christmas money....
